This movie is based on the shocking true events happening in the UP. Ayushmann khurana plays role of Ayan Ranjan an IPS officer. He is a man grown up in different countries, who take up his new posting in a UP village named Lalgaon. where people don’t even share water with the lower caste people(dalits) and where people wear their caste on their sleeves and where caste gives the preference over the person’s name.

After joining the new posting a case comes to him where 2 dalit girls are gang raped and murdered and their bodies found hanging from the tree and the one girl is still missing and when he starts investigation he founded people saying ‘idhr toh aisa hota rehta hai’ this provokes the ayan ranjan.

The whole film is about how ayan solves the case, while trying to understand the ingrained caste system in the village.

This movie is based on the caste system which is  ruling in our country, how upper caste people  rules over the below caste people. The practice of ‘Untouchability’ has been made a punishable offence under the Act of 1955. Article 15 of the constitution prohibits discrimination on any ground-religion, race, caste, gender, or place of birth. This article guarantees no citizen can be prohibited from entering public places.
